Our Story

The concept of Chicks was born back in 2005 when the three owners (Kati, Nick, and Shannon) went to eat lunch at Lips to Go in Burlington, Iowa. Kati asked if the other two would want to open a restaurant with her that sold Chicken Lips and other great food? This started a discussion with a local Chef who helped us develop the concept and start to make the dream come true. The first discussion with the chef was held on May 5 th , 2005 and 9 long months later, Chick’s on the Square opened its doors in Macomb, Illinois on February 1, 2006.

Since then, Chick’s on the Square has become a destination eatery in Macomb and for the surrounding area. We have consistently been chosen by the Western Illinois University students and the townspeople of Macomb as the best place to eat in Macomb. Chick’s is also ranked as the number one place to eat in Macomb according to Google, Yelp, and Trip Advisor! Chick’s prides itself on magnificently unique fresh food items and outstanding service along with our over 40 different fresh juice martinis and a number of craft beer selection. After 8 very successful years in Macomb, the owners began looking for a location for a second Chicks restaurant to open. After looking at various properties in multiple cities, Quincy, Illinois was chosen for our second location. A building on the beautiful Quincy riverfront was purchased and completely remodeled in 2013 and part of 2014. Chick’s on the River opened in May of 2014 to a swarm of local support and excitement.

Now, nearly 6 years later we are still serving the amazing town of Quincy the same great food that made Chick’s a household name in Macomb. Chick’s on the River is also consistently ranked as one of the top restaurants in Quincy and has garnered a 4 out of 5 star rating from Google and Trip Advisor. Our fresh ground burgers were voted as the best burger in Quincy in 2018 and continue to be a customer favorite! As Chick’s on the Square in Macomb has recently had its 14 year anniversary and Chick’s on the River in Quincy approaches its 6 year anniversary, the owners and staff would like to thank all of our loyal customers for their wonderful patronage over the years. Without the support of our communities, we wouldn’t be able to keep doing what we love to do which is putting smiles on faces every day and eating chicken lips!
